40 years ago today, in the sleepy coastal town of Florence, Oregon, an extremely poor choice was made. When faced with how to remove the carcass of a huge whale that had beached itself, the Oregon Dept. of Transportation decided the most prudent method was to blow it up with TNT. Things did not go as planned and “the blast blasted blubber beyond all believable bounds”. There was carnage everywhere. Please enjoy the footage of the exploding whale.
